Who I am

This website is operated by Andrew Hogan, a self-employed barrister practising from Hailsham Chambers, 4 Paper Buildings, Temple, London EC4Y 7EX. For data-protection purposes I am the controller of personal information collected through this website. My Information Commissioner’s Office registration number is 00019935310.

This notice concerns information collected through themarvellousanalyticalengine.ai. Separate arrangements apply to personal information processed in the course of my professional practice as a barrister.

Information you send through the contact form

If you use the contact form, the site receives your name, email address and the information you choose to include in your message. The form is provided using WPForms and sends the message to me by email. I use that information to read and respond to your enquiry and to deal with any correspondence which follows from it.

The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interest in receiving and responding to correspondence about the book, this website, review copies and related matters. Please do not use the book contact form to send confidential instructions about legal proceedings.

Website analytics

The site uses Jetpack Stats to provide aggregate information about visits to pages and posts, referrals and similar traffic information. Jetpack Stats is supplied by Automattic. In providing the service, Automattic may process technical information including IP address, user agent, the page visited, referring URL, timestamp, browser language and country. I receive aggregate statistics rather than information identifying individual visitors.

I use those statistics to understand whether the website is being read and which material is useful. Jetpack is configured to honour browser Do Not Track requests. Automattic states that identifying data in Jetpack Stats logs is retained for 28 days for the purpose of providing the service.

Cookies and consent

The site uses CookieYes to provide its cookie and consent controls. Cookies which are necessary for the operation and security of the website may be used without separate consent. Where a non-essential cookie or similar technology requires consent, the consent mechanism is intended to allow you to accept or reject the relevant category. You can revisit your choices using the cookie settings control displayed on the site.

The precise cookies in use may change when WordPress or an enabled service is updated. The cookie settings panel is the current record of the categories made available through this site.

Who receives information

I do not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers used to operate and secure the website, deliver email, provide the contact form, manage cookie preferences or supply aggregate analytics. Those services include WordPress software, WPForms, CookieYes and Jetpack/Automattic.

If a message sent through this website concerns my professional practice rather than the book or website, it may be appropriate to refer the enquiry to my clerks at Hailsham Chambers.

How long information is kept

Correspondence received through the website is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry and any appropriate administrative or legal record-keeping. Aggregate analytics are retained in accordance with the settings and retention periods of the relevant service.

Your rights

Data-protection law gives individuals rights in appropriate circumstances, including rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection. If you wish to raise a question about personal information collected through this website, please use the Contact page.

You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
